Introducing Our District’s “Portrait of a Learner” Initiative!

We’re excited to announce that our district is launching a “Portrait of a Learner” — a shared vision for what every student should know, be, and be able to do by the time they graduate from Leslie County High School!

This initiative brings together students, families, board members, community members, business leaders, employers, government, teachers, administrators, and faith-based organizations, all to define the key skills and mindsets our learners need to succeed in an ever-changing world.

Using the Kentucky Department of Education’s Portrait of a Learner model as our guide, we’ll work together to ensure every student develops the competencies that matter most — such as critical thinking, communication, collaboration, creativity, and citizenship.

This is more than a document — it’s a community-driven vision that will shape instruction, experiences, and opportunities for years to come.

Our district committee has met twice, and now we need your voice and help to assist us in designing a portrait that reflects the heart and values of Leslie County Schools. Together, we’ll create a future-ready path for every learner!
